KLIMZUG-NORD - Strategic Approaches to Climate Change Adaptation in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region

Within the project KLIMZUG-NORD regional partners from the research, economic and administrative sectors work together on a climate adaptation master plan that continues until 2050. Thematic focal points are the Elbe estuary management, integrated spatial development, nature conservation and governance in a dynamic region populated by 4.3 million people.

Project Objectives 

• Development of techniques and methods for diminution of climate impacts and for the adaptation of society and economy to the increased risks from climate change
• Development of strategies and concepts with which these methods can be integrated in regional planning and development processes
• Presentation of the cost, the effectiveness and the efficiency of these strategies and approaches for civil society, environment and economy
• Creation of the master plan of management of climate effects/change in the Hamburg metropolitan region for the period 2050
